The following section is where free form comments are added and attachments are made. HOMOLOGATOR'S REMARKS Give details of any variations of IWSF rules. List any alterations to the course, etc. duringthe competition. List any malfunction of equipment. Give any further information which might affect the Tournament Council's assement of the homologation. Item 7) Homologation Notice - was not posted - an oversight. Item 12 Slalom Judging setup. The site had been set up at some expense for the now defunct 'two judges in a central tower' configuration. Though it was attempted, video from the boat as now required for this set up could not be made to work, so the traditional setup was hastilly adopted for the elite divisions. One tower was established on top of the kiosk and was off line but provided a satisfactory view from more than 3m height above water. The other was on line on the roof of a 4wd. Due to shortage of judges, the tournament slipped in and out of homologation as respect judging personel according to the level of the skiers on the water. Appropriate judging was provided for all divisions with skiers capable of ranking list level performances. Video Check. The figures quoted above, vis:- JUMP MEASUREMENT SETUP VIDEO JUMP 40m Test buoy Survey x (39.52 ) y (-6.16 ) Video system x (39.57 ) y (-5.61 ) Diff 0.05 -0.50 60m Test buoy Survey x (59.63 ) y (-6.66 ) Video system x (59.91 ) y (-5.59 ) Diff 0.28 1.07 do not agree to the extent usually expected. This phenomenon has been observed at this site previously. The site is set up along the lines suggested by Dave Clark in his VJ diagrams as "R Spec alternative 2 - cameras on Right." An unusual feature of this set up is that grid 2 has a row of three grid buoys in both foreground and background. In addition, this grid sees both the 40m and 60m check bouys and some redundant buoys in the ET line. These features lead to the detection of barrel distortion in the picture which would have otherwise gone undetected. Neither would it have been expected, since the <30 degrees filed of view was obeyed. This set up has flat view lines, so barrel distortion has a significant efffect on the y direction. The barrel distortion was removed using Panorama Tools and the check replotted. Adjusted co-ordinates are as follows:- Grid 1 40m Test buoy Survey x (39.52 ) y (-6.16) d(42.1) Video system x (39.57 ) y (-6.22) d(42.1) Diff 0.05 0.06 zero Grid 2 40m Test buoy Survey x (39.52 ) y (-6.16 ) d(42.1) Video system x (39.59 ) y (-6.06 ) d(42.1) Diff 0.07 - 0.10 zero 60m Test buoy Survey x (59.63 ) y (-6.66 ) d(62.1) Video system x (59.67 ) y (-6.52 ) d(62.2) Diff 0.040 -0.14 0.10 (note 1) note 1) actual calculated diffenence in distance is only 25mm but the rounding of VJ caused a 0.1 difference in the reported distance. This setup is tolerant of y direction errors and VJview indicates an expectation of errors of the order of 350mm without compromising jump distance R level accuracy. Once the above accuracy had been established, some testing was done to establish the effect on jump distances. As was shown aboe for the 40 and 60m check buoys, no significant difference was detected in actuall jumps whether the corrrected picture was used or not. It is assumed that there is some happy coincidence of geometry or perhaps good algorithm design in VJ which tolerates the barrel distortion. It is noted that the major effect is in the y direction. The tournament is therefore recommended for L homologation for jump. I am happy to correspond on this issse.
